WASHBURN FIELD
The Venue
Washburn Field, full-time stomping ground for the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams at Colorado College, also serves as a practice/training facility for track and field.
Formerly the longtime home to the Tigers' football program, eliminated as a varsity sport after the 2008 season, the historic site has been a fixture on the CC campus for more than a century while undergoing numerous facelifts every few decades or so. Most recently, the field received a new turf surface during the summer of 2019.
The Frank Flood Memorial Track, named after a longtime CC football assistant and track coach, was resurfaced and improved as part of the El Pomar Sports Complex improvement project during the summer of 2013.
The world-famous summit of Pikes Peak, 14,115 feet above sea level, still dominates the landscape as viewed from the grandstand on the east sideline. Joggers and bicyclists continue to pass along the north-south trail that runs between the field and Monument Creek to the west.
Directions
Take I-25 to exit 143. Turn east (away from mountains) on Uintah Street, and proceed up the hill about a quarter mile to Cascade Avenue. Turn right (south) on Cascade to Cache La Poudre. Turn right (west) on Cache La Poudre and down the hill to the El Pomar Sports Center, the third and final building on the right. Parking is on the street and very limited near the facility. Additional parking is available just to the south on Dale Street or in the Monument Valley Park lot across the creek to the west. Access Washburn Field by walking north, past the El Pomar Sports Center on either side.
