Virginia Street Gym

The Virginia Street Gym, located in the heart of the University of Nevada campus, is the home of the Wolf Pack volleyball team. The 1,800 seat facility has seen major renovations and improvements over the last five years including a name change prior to the 2001 season. The previously named Old Gym took its new moniker from the street that runs along the westside of the facility and through the heart of the "Biggest Little City". Formerly used as an all-sport venue, the Virginia Street Gym became the sole playing venue for the volleyball program in 1994.

A facility that is rich in history since opening in 1945, the Virginia Street Gym continues to undergo improvements. The Gym and the volleyball program received a new scorer’s table through private donations. In the spring of 2015, retractable basketball hoops were installed and has since served as the backup practice facility for the Wolf Pack men’s and women’s basketball teams.

In 2004, the Pack locker room was moved and brought into the 21st century with new state of the art lockers, video equipment, and other essentials that will make the players more comfortable in their new surroundings.

A new wood floor was installed during the summer of 2001 and features the Wolf Pack logo and Nevada Volleyball on the endlines. In an effort to continually make improvements to the facility several enhancements were made prior to the 2002 season, with the most apparent being the new seating that was installed on the lower level of the gym. The new seating features 104 chair back seats on the south side and new bleacher seating throughout the remainder of the lower level.

In addition to the seating, Wolf Pack fans heard one and saw two other new additions to the gym in 2002. A new scoreboard, and overhead lighting were installed and enhancements were made to the sound system. In addition to displaying the score of the current game, the scoreboard has several additional features including a listing of players current in the match along with two statistics categories for each of the players, kills, and service aces. Additionally the scoreboard lists games won by each team and the scores of the previous completed games of the match along the bottom. The 2003 season saw the addition of a second scoreboard on the west end of the gym that allows all spectators to see the score of the match from all seats.

Funding for the improvements has come from many sources: The E.L. Wiegand Foundation (bleachers), SBC (east-scoreboard), Nevada Lighting-Mario Dimini (lighting), Northwest Datacom-Greg Lafayette (west-scoreboard), Fleet Air Conditioning (new locker room air conditioning), The University of Nevada, and the Wolf Pack Athletic Department.

The gym hosted three-consecutive Western Athletic Conference Tournaments from 2002 through 2004 and the Pack finished second in 2002 and 2004.
