- Romano Gym opened its doors on December 12, 1953 as Bulldog Men's Basketball hosted Gustavus Adolphus.
- The facility can seat 2,759 fans.
- UMD Volleyball set the venue attendance record against NSIC rival Concordia University St. Paul with 2,441 fans on November 1, 2011. That shattered the previous record of 2,312 on Oct. 30, 2007 between the same two schools (Since 2000).
- In the spring of 2019,
Romano Gym hosted the National Championship celebration for UMD Men's Hockey.
- The facility saw a $2 Million renovation prior to the 1986-87 season.
- In 2013 a Daktronics LED scorers table was added to the facility.
- In Phase One of the Romano 2020 Project, a brand new Daktronics 6mm LED videoboard was added to the facility.
- In Phase Two of the project the following items were added to the facility: brand new floor, HVAC system, new bleachers, and portable baskets.
- 2019 saw the replacement of the folding door separating the main facility, from a smaller gym.
- In 2022, Phase Three was completed which saw the remodel of the lobby, trophy cases, and locker rooms.
- In the summer of 2023, brand new ceiling mounted baskets were added to the facility.

VOLLEYBALL:
Bulldog Volleyball has called Romano Gym home since the programs inception in 1976. UMD has hosted the NCAA Central Region Tournament in 2006, 2007, and 2014. The Bulldogs have also hosted the
2018 NSIC Volleyball Tournament, in which they won claiming an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
