The Rainbow Wahine softball team has played their home contests on campus since the program turned intercollegiate in 1985. The field, formerly known as Wahine Softball Field, was transformed into the current 1,200-seat stadium prior to the 1998 season. Now known as Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, the structure has hosted a variety of softball events, in addition to serving as the University's home facility.

In the summer of 2000, Team USA softball stopped in for some exhibition contests in preparation for its gold medal run at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.They swept a three-game set from the Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL) All-Star Team and took a doubleheader from the Rainbow Wahine.
The 'Bows have enjoyed tremendous success at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. In 1998, Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium's first season of play, UH went 28-2 at home and 46-15 overall. In 1999 they went 19-3 at home to finish 35-23 overall.

In 2000, they dipped a bit, but maintained their winning ways, going 12-10 at home. In 2001, they hosted 25 games posting 20 wins.

The Rainbow Wahine have played their home contests on campus since the program turned intercollegiate in 1985. The field, formerly known as Wahine Softball Field, was transformed into the current 1,200-seat structure now known as the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium prior to the 1998 season. Since its construction, a batting house and training/hospitality room was added to the complex. In 2014, new stadium field lights were installed and in 2015 a brand new video scoreboard replaced the original scoreboard. Also added in 2015 was custom padding for the backstop behind homeplate.

In addition to serving as the University's home facility, the RWSS has hosted a variety of softball events. Team USA has stopped by for exhibition contests on a few occasions in preparation for its gold medal run at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Team USA swept a three-game set from the Women's pros Softball League (WPSL) All-Star Team and took a doubleheader from the Rainbow Wahine. The national team also made a brief training stop in Honolulu in 2007 en route to their World Championships.

The RWSS also serves as home to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association's state softball tournament as well as numerous other community events. In 1998, RWSS's first season of play, UH went 28-2 at home and 46-15 overall. In 1999 the team went 19-3 with a 35-23 overall record. The RWSS has seen three Western Athletic Conference championship teams (2003, '07, '10). In 2007, UH fans were treated to one of the best season in school history with the team notching wins over several ranked teams at home, a majority coming during the four non-conference tournaments that Hawai`i hosted. The 'Bows earned home wins over Top 25 teams Nebraska, Auburn, DePaul, Oregon State, Baylor, California, and Fresno State. The team went on to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals in Knoxville, Tenn. for the first time in school and conference history. In 2008, the 'Bows went 40-21 at the RWSS and hosted the WAC Tournament for the first time ever. Hawai'i finished with a solid 40-21 season going and making their eighth appearance in the NCAA's. Then, in 2010, the Rainbow Wahine set the world afire winning both the WAC regular season and tournament titles; the NCAA Regional; NCAA Super Regional; and advancing to its first Women's College World Series. The 'Bows went 24-8 at home that season and went on to finish the season at 50-16. In 2012, the 'Bows started on a school-record 21-game win streak and went 26-3 at home en route to its fourth Western Athletic Conference title and 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament. In 2013, the Rainbow Wahine went 28-7 in their home games on the way to winning the Big West title and advancing to the program's 11th NCAA Tournament. Since the RWSS was first constructed, UH has a 397-176 record at home in 19 seasons.
