Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans Athletics

HAWAI'I HILO VULCANS ATHLETICS

Vulcan Soccer Field

Installation of the Vulcan Soccer Field was completed in spring 2022 and sits on the south end of the Hawai‘i Hilo campus along West Kawili Street.

The $5.3 million project began planning in 2016 before breaking ground four years later in Oct. 2020 to build a new synthetic turf soccer field, turf softball field, rennovated tennis courts and a multi-purpose building housing restrooms, concessions and storage. The shovels-in-the-dirt moment marked the first time in nearly 40 years that a new athletics facility was built at UH Hilo.

The new soccer field is also the first soccer-specific field to feature artificial turf in the entire state of Hawai‘i.

Previously, Vulcans soccer teams played home matches at Francis Wong Stadium, George and Marion Hall Stadium, Amauulu and Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i's Paiea Stadium among other venues.

A Hawaiian blessing for multiple Hawai‘i Hilo Athletics facilities, including the Vulcan Soccer Field, was held Sept. 2, 2022.Â
