Saxon Stadium

Fast Facts:
Capacity: 1,100
Built: 1996
Square Footage: 15,000

Part of the William J. Vorsheck Athletic Complex, Saxon Stadium serves as the home to Mercyhurst football, field hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, the marching band, and various club and intramural sports.

Located on the back campus of Mercyhurst, Saxon Stadium seats 2,300 spectators on the bleachers while others opt to sit on the rolling hills to the south of the field. The stadium is named after John and Patty Saxon, who made a significant contribution to the Laker for Life Campaign. In the beginning of summer 2019, major renovations began to overhaul the stadium, most of which was putting in new turf to enhance the student athlete and fan experiences. The stadium also serves as a rental facility for the greater Erie Community.

When Laker football began in 1981, home games were played at the 10,000-seat Erie Veterans Stadium. An on-campus stadium was part of the master plan of the college and the athletic program but the vision was in the distance. The dream was given an unexpected boost in 1996 when Veterans Stadium was suddenly unavailable for games. Faced with not having a field to host fall football games, Mercyhurst officials responded by building what is now Saxon Stadium.
