The William H. Pitt Center, which opened in August 1997, will undergo renovations in 2024 with the hope of completion by the fall. The three-level, 141,000 square foot facility has served as the heart of SHU Division I athletics and is the competition home to men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, wrestling and fencing.

The 2,000-seat multipurpose arena will undergo a major facelift. The court will rotate 90 degrees from its current position and be surrounded by permanent bleacher-style and backed arena-style seating, bringing fans closer to the action, and creating a true home court advantage. This redesign will maximize the current footprint of the building and allow for ample practice options creating a top-tier experience for SHU’s talented student-athletes. The renovations will provide a high-quality fan experience, especially with the addition of a mezzanine for VIP seating and events, video boards, sound systems and lighting.

The Pitt Center, which houses the SHU Athletics Department on the upper level, includes basketball courts, a fitness center, rehab rooms, locker spaces, a sports performance room and more. The venue serves as a gathering space for the SHU community. Numerous concerts, games, Relay for Life events, lectures and convocation ceremonies have been held at the Pitt Center.

The Pitt Center's lower level boasts both an aerobics room and a 5,000-square-foot weight training facility, which includes both cardiovascular equipment and free weights. Locker rooms for varsity teams and members are also located on the lower level. It also contains the Pioneer Wrestling Room and offices for the varsity football staff as well as large spaces dedicated to athletic trainers and the equipment staff.
