Koehler Hall of Fame Field

General Information: Koehler Hall of Fame Field is the preeminent softball stadium in the Upper Midwest and one of the finest NCAA Division II facilities in the entire country. Named in honor of a generous lead gift from NSU alumnus Jim Koehler, the Field consists of an all-synthetic turf field, in-ground dugouts, bullpens and batting cages, chair back seating, multiple berms surrounding the stadium, and a media / suite area directly behind home plate. The facility officially opened in the fall of 2021. Pets are not permitted in the facility unless they are a certified service animal.

Concessions: The concessions stand, located above the third base dugout, will be open one hour prior to the first pitch of all home contests at Koehler Hall of Fame Field, and will close at the fifth inning of the second game.

Educational Impact Campaign: Together, Northern State University and the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired embarked on a collaborative groundbreaking campaign that transformed the educational footprint of northeast South Dakota; the Education Impact Campaign. The third and final phase included Dacotah Bank Stadium and Koehler Hall of Fame Field. The custom, all-synthetic turf field features in-ground dugouts, home and away bullpens and batting cages, chair back seating, and a media / suite area directly behind home plate. These amenities make Koehler Hall of Fame Field and Northern State softball one of the premier facilities and programs in the Upper Midwest.

Jim 'Ruby' Koehler: Koehler Hall of Fame Field is named after the donor whose generosity made it possible: Jim “Ruby” Koehler of Aberdeen. A 1974 Northern alum, Koehler has a long history with the sport of softball in the State of South Dakota. His teams won multiple state championships at the highest level and qualified for numerous national tournaments. Jim played 12-inch, 14-inch and 16-inch slow-pitch softball for over 40 years. He is the driving force behind the Aberdeen Last Chance and Circus softball teams. Koehler, who hit for power and average, played on state, regional and national championship teams, and in 2015, Koehler was inducted into the South Dakota Softball Hall of Fame. His respect for the game and promotion of it is to be admired.
