Reopened in 2007, Vert Stadium has received consistent upgrades to become one of the best facilities in the nation for track & field, soccer and lacrosse. The field was renovated in 2011 to install Mondo 3NX turf with an FTS pad and eco fill. Vert's most recent upgrade came in 2018 when HPU installed FieldTurf CORE.

FieldTurf's CORE fiber is the first multi-layer dual polymer fiber ever made, rewriting the playbook for sports turf. It is designed to deliver a more realistic, textured, grass-like shape with optimal durability and resiliency. Labosport tested CORE using the Fiber Performance Index, measuring durability, resilience, and softness. CORE emerged with a score of 89, the highest-ever FPI score given by Labosport.

Belk Track, which circles the field, is ideal for both training and racing, specifically for middle- and long-distance running. It's an eight-lane Benyon surface with wide-radius turns. The track area has field event space for the high jump, pole vault, long jump and triple jump. An additional throwing area was constructed in 2011, providing facilities for shot put, discus and javelin. In 2014, a hammer throw/discus cage was installed.

The stadium also features a full video board as well as lighting, which allows the field to be used freely for practice and games.

The stadium has hosted Big South Championships for women's soccer in 2003, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019, men's soccer in 2005, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019, women's lacrosse in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 in addition to hosting the Southern Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament in 2019 and 2020. In the spring of 2009, the track & field team hosted its first home meet at the facility and has hosted the Big South Track and Field Championships in 2015 and 2018, and will host again this year in 2020.
