The Gannon women's lacrosse team was the first to play on the field that spring. The football, women's soccer, men's soccer, baseball, softball, and lacrosse teams all began using the facility full-time during the 2001-02 academic year.

With a seating capacity of 2,500 and excellent lighting, McConnell Family Stadium allows Golden Knights’ fans to watch their team day or night.

The facility has a modern press box overlooking the field from the south side for all media and coaching staffs. It also has the ability for radio and television broadcasts to be originated from the stadium.

A FieldTurf surface enables the facility to be used by baseball, football, lacrosse, soccer, and softball teams. Many other events have also been scheduled at the multi-purpose facility. The surface was replaced and upgraded before the 2022-23 seasons.

Team locker rooms, concession stands and restrooms are located on the east side of the facility.
